December Mini

Once again, I "Returned to Temecula" for my monthly mini.

I can't seem to stay  away from Temecula for very long. So many of her quilts call out to me, as in I want to make this quilt! "Her" being Sheryl Johnson of Temecula Quilt Company. I love her designs, which are challenging but mostly not too complicated, and I keep returning to them again and again. I also love her color style, which I've come to call "Temecula Style" being on the brighter, more colorful side of the repro genre. The happier colors are a fun departure from my usual "dull" palette.

For this month's mini, I thought I'd make "Tiny Tree" which was her Christmas Mini for this year, but then I found this one from a previous year, and decided to make it instead. It uses the same blocks as the tree, but with different colors and setting. Much happier!

I quilted it using the hand-quilt stitch on my Janome. So easy (no stress on my hands) and so effective.

Once again I was blessed with serendipity, finding the perfect border and backing fabric, out of my stash!

Now back to the sewing room, to work on my Summer Sampler - another Temecula project from a few years ago. Don't worry, I'll have a finish to show soon, which is NOT from Temecula, and other projects brewing as well.

Now go check out the other minis for this month on Wendy's blog.

Happy New Year, everyone!

love,
Sandy

  1. Your mini is perfect for winter, warm and cheerful! So fun to find the perfect piece of fabric for backing these little gems, especially when it's the perfect size with nothing wasted or going to the overflowing scrap bins. Happy new year to you and yours!

  5. I love your little quilt. The border fabric really brings it all together. I made the tiny tree this season but it has yet to be quilted. I forgot about the hand stitching stitch on my Bernina. Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to use it for this. I signed up for the Bygone Baskets SAL on the Temecula Blog. Can't wait till it starts.
